tho fruits of the administration of Gen, Jack-

was likke that ofa father for his children.

We wero glad to notice that Judye MeLenn

fatigue he must have undergone it travelling
through his extensive Circuit.

Tur Cextnan Rar Way.—It is with the
highest gratification we announce the arrival at
our town on Wednesday last of our estecined

We copy from the Alton papers the account
given by the Mayor of the city of the tragedy
recently enacted at that ple en thus teld,
itis fearful tale, aud bas more than imade
good the predictions which we ventured to
and destruc”

tnake four weeks ago:—“ Muri

State, without exception, bas now taken up the
eubject in its proper light; and they will ex-
cuse us for observing that if (hey bad dune so
before the occurrence of the fatal events which
they ji

condemn, their wuited voice might

have stayed the whirlwind which has passed
over the infunt city of Alton.

Do the People ask what it isy that has thus
emboldened a foreign money power openly
to establish her agents within our borders?
Wo answer, that it is thé power of the Banks,
with Biddle at theie head. [tis the money
power of the couitry, acting for the aggran-

No man of Common information can doubt

Mr. Nicholas Biddle.”

economist, nothing but a national bank as

We. The firing soon became fearful and
dangerous between the contending parties,
so much so tint the further intorgosition on
the part of the civil authorities and eitizens
was believed altogether inadequate and haz-

doomed to an unenvialle and inevitable

time the fire was communicated wo the buil

near the door of the warchouse, and fell n
